Nitte (Deemed to be University) and the ICAR–National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (ICAR-
NBFGR) Lucknow entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 27 August 2026, marking
an important milestone in strengthening institutional collaboration in research, innovation,
technology development and areas of mutual scientific interest.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Harsha Halahalli, Registrar, NitteDU, and Dr. Kajal Chakraborty, Director,
ICAR-NBFGR, and was exchanged in the august presence of Prof. M. S. Moodithaya, Hon’ble Vice
Chancellor of NitteDU, Prof. Iddya Karunasagar, Advisor - Research and Patents, NitteDU, Prof.
Indrani Karunasagar, Director - Projects and Director, DST-NUTEC, Prof. Anirban Chakraborty,
Director, Nitte University Centre for Science Education and Research (NUCSER), and Mr. Nithya
Chethan, Legal Officer, NitteDU, along with members of the DST-NUTEC team.
The occasion marked the beginning of a collaborative partnership that seeks to bring together the
complementary strengths, expertise, and research capabilities of the two institutions. There are
number areas of common interest such as aquatic animal health management, genetic diversity, cell
culture technology and joint activity between Nitte FAO Reference Centre for Antimicrobial
resistance and aquaculture biosecurity and ICAR-NBFGR is envisaged. The partnership is expected to
create new opportunities for collaborative research and knowledge exchange by leveraging the
scientific expertise and specialized facilities available at NitteDU and ICAR-NBFGR. Through this
institutional association, the two organizations envisage developing joint initiatives in areas of
shared interest such as genomics, aquatic animal health management and one health, promoting
interdisciplinary research, facilitating scientific interactions, and strengthening capacity building and
innovation. With the formalization of this MoU, NitteDU and ICAR-NBFGR look forward to building a
sustained and productive partnership that promotes research excellence, encourages innovation,
and strengthens the translation of scientific knowledge into technologies that benefit all
stakeholders. The collaboration further reinforces NitteDU's commitment to developing strategic
partnerships with leading national institutions and creating a vibrant ecosystem for interdisciplinary
research and innovation.
The MoU signing was facilitated by the DST-NUTEC, reflecting its continued commitment to fostering
meaningful collaborations between academic institutions, national research organizations, and other
stakeholders to facilitate technology development, validation and commercialisation. By enabling
partnerships that connect scientific expertise that can address societal priorities, DST-NUTEC plays
an important role in expanding NitteDU's collaborative research ecosystem.
