On the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day 2026, DST TEC organized a session “Navigating IPR in Tech and Business – Concept to asset” in St Agnes College (declared College of Excellence by UGC and Star College by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India) on April 28, 2026, at 10.00 AM. The Session was held at the Seminar Hall, Centenary Building and was attended by Sr Dr. M. Virona, PG Coordinator, Mrs. Sheryl Preethika, HOD of Department of Business Administration, Mrs Panchajanyeswari, HOD of Computer applications, Dr. Sapna Kumai, Coordinator of IPR Cell. Mrs Akshatha Shetty and Mr. P.J. Chaco, Staff Coordinators. About 200 students from Computer Science and Management Departments attended the event. Dr. Indrani Karunasagar introduced DST TEC to the participants. Dr. Iddya Karunasagar explained about IPR and the theme of 2026 International IPR Day – IPR in Sports: Ready, set and innovate. He illustrated with examples how IPR is important in all fields including literature, arts, music, sports, agriculture, medicine, science and technology. He explained about prior art search to determine eligibility for filing patent applications, the steps involved in preparing the application, defending the application regarding novelty, inventive step, technical advancements before the grant of patent. He also explained about copyrights, industrial designs, geographical index and trademarks. The session was interactive with students requesting clarifications on a number of points.
