Patent granted for an innovative process for preparation of Betel Leaf Beverage

Nitte (Deemed to be University) received Indian Patent (No. 578494) on January 19, 2026, for the "Process for the Preparation of Betel Leaf Beverage with Desirable Taste and Mouth Feel," invented by Dr. Mamatha B.S. from Nitte University Centre for Science Education and Research (NUCSER) and Mr. Sandeep Kumar H.S. from Eshanya. This breakthrough refines betel leaf extraction for an appealing taste and mouthfeel, leveraging the herb's digestive and antioxidant properties to create a novel natural beverage, building on prior technology transfer felicitated by Technology Enabling Centre with a goal in advancing sustainable food innovations.
